Frequently Asked Questions
What is so bad about oral acidity?
When oral pH drops below the critical threshold (approximately pH 5.5), enamel begins to demineralise. This can lead to dental erosion leaving teeth more exposed and prone to sensitiviry and dental decay.
When oral pH drops, the bacterial balance in your changes. A more acidic mouth favors harmful bacteria that also produce acid, keeping your mouth in an acidic state.
These bacteria create a sticky biofilm on your teeth known as dental plaque. When this plaque persists it hardens into tartar or dental calculus.
What causes oral acidity?
Oral acidity can be cause by a range of factors such as:
- acidic foods (citrus, tomato sauce etc.
- acidic drinks (coffee, alcohol, fizzy drinks etc.)
- acid reflux or heartburn
- vommitting
- bacterial imbalance in the mouth
- high GI carbohydrate diets
- high sugar diets
- gut biome imbalance
What is the difference between Dental pH-ix and Dental Shield?
Dental pH-ix should be used directly after acid exposure. It is an alkalising formula designed to neutralise acid in the mouth. It should be used directly after eating acidic foods such as fruits, salad dressings etc. or after acid beverages such as coffee, wine etc. It can be used after other acid exposures such as acid reflux, morning sickness or vomitting etc.
Dental Shield should be used before or between acid exposures. It is a protective formula designed to create a thin protective layer on the surface of the teeth that acts as a barrier against acid and bacteria. You must also allow 2-3 hours between doses to avoid over-chelation of minerals. Do not use after brushing teeth.
Is it safe to use with braces, implants and crowns?

-
Braces

However, if you are swallowing it please keep in mind that injesting high doses (>15ml) may lead to loose stool or nausea due to the electrolytes in the formula. It is recommended to not exceed injesting 5ml per dose or 20ml per day.
Dental Shield can be used 3-5 times per day between acid exposure and allowing 2-3 hours between doses. It should not be used more than 5 times per day to avid over-chelating minerals. However, if you are swallowing it than do not exceed 1ml (aprox. 10 sprays/1 dropper) per dose and do not exceed 3 doses per day because it contains chelating ingredients.

How do I know it's working?
You know Dental pH-ix is working when there is a slowing down or reduction in enamel erosion over time. It is importnat to understand that Dental pH-ix does NOT rebuild enamel. Enamel doesn't rebuild or grow. Acid erodes enamel and Dental pH-ix is designed to neutralise acid in the mouth.
It is recommended that you ask your dentist to take a record of your enamel erosion and compare it on your next visit. They can give each tooth an erosion score or take photos that they can compare your teeth to on your next visit. This is a great way to track your enamel erosion over time.
